Facility

Facilities The Franklin St School of Woodwork is conveniently located on the edge of downtown Tampa, FL in a 4000 sqft beautifully restored building that was recently added to the National Historic register. Along with an extensive array of power tools and hand tools, the school has a small conference room/kitchen facilities, two clean bathrooms (one of which is wheelchair accessible).  The building is air conditioned during the summer and heated during the bitter Florida winters.  There is plenty of parking.

Our goal is to make the learning environment as comfortable as possible so each student has his or her own worktable or bench depending on the class being taught as well as a stool to sit on during lecture time.

The workshop has a specially designed suspended floor system designed to eliminate the stress of standing on concrete.  Additionally, each machine either has its own dust collection system or is connected to a central dust collection system.

There is an extensive array of well maintained, highly tuned power tools and plenty of hand tools that students will get to use in the process of their studies.

We are a small working shop focused on the art of fine studio furniture.  Our instructors have deep practical knowledge from  years of professional experience in their field but they also love to teach and are highly personable.  You will never feel uncomfortable or without access to the best advice and attention at Franklin St.  We want you to enjoy and love woodworking as much as we do.  We want to fill our communities with active, creative woodworkers.

“This is an amazing workshop for a woodworker, a really great place to learn with a wide array of equipment and well thought out professional systems, clean and well designed but most of all it just feels good to be there, it’s a perfect craftsman paradise” Chad O.

“The moment I walk into Franklin St. I can feel my stress dropping away and my focus and concentration settling. The ambiance of the shop is very comfortable –  its like stepping into a different world.  I am really lucky that I got a chance to attend a class there, they are definitely not cookie cutter like some of the bigger schools” Wendy R.
